Youth

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”
1 Timothy 4:12

Youth at Palisades Methodist will find a fun, supportive place where all are accepted and welcome. Our youth groups enjoy lots of fun activities, life-changing service opportunities and a chance to develop their Christian faith.

On Sundays, youth are dismissed from 10 am worship after prayer time to participate in their Sunday School classes. Senior High Sunday School (grades 9-12) is led by our Youth Director, Joey Hargrove in the Youth Lounge. Junior High Sunday School (grades 6-8) is led by our Associate Pastor, Chris Fracchiolla, and meets in the Captain’s Club Room.

During the week, the Senior High Youth Group meets each Monday from 5-7. Junior High Youth Group meets each Friday from 4-6. The youth lounge is also open from 3:30-4 (before Youth Group officially begins) to accommodate youth who want to come early and hang out with their friends. Youth Group is divided into two main activities: recreation and lesson. Recreation varies from photo scavenger hunts throughout the Palisades to Capture the Flag in the courtyard or Dodge Ball in the gym. Our lessons focus on what it means to be a Christian in today’s world – and how Christian principals apply to teenage decisions and struggles.

Some of the highlights of our yearly activities include:

Sierra Service Project – A weeklong mission trip for the Senior High in July each summer. This has been a life-changing experience for many of our youth! It’s an opportunity to travel to Native American reservations and work on and repair the residents’ homes with youth from other churches. An amazing way to put their faith in action! www.sierraserviceproject.org

30 Hour Famine – A 24-hour lock-in and fast in April that raises money and awareness for starving children throughout the world. The youth raise money by getting the church, family and friends to sponsor their fast. Then we spend the time together learning about hunger, helping others and having fun – on empty stomachs! www.30hourfamine.org

Youth Week – A week in August with daily fun activities! Past activities have included: roller-skating, paintball, horseback riding, service projects, going to the beach, Magic Mountain and more! This is mainly a social event, an opportunity to get the youth excited about youth group and reconnect before school starts.

The youth of this church are involved in much more than just youth group and youth activities! They are a crucial part of all our church activities. The youth volunteer at Vacation Bible School, participate in our Children’s Christmas Musical, serve on various church committees, lead an entire worship service each summer and much much more!

Our Youth Director is Ms. Joey Hargrove, while our Assistant Youth Director is John Achen II.
